Kenny Hashimoto – 2nd in Pan-American Championships

Kenny Hashimoto had a spectacular day on Friday on his way to winning a silver medal at the Pan-American Championships being held in Guadalajara, Mexico. On his way to the silver medal, Kenny beat Alejandro Zuñiga (World Ranked 57th) from Chile, Flavio Israel Verdugo (World Ranked 102nd) from Equador, Ricardo Valderama (World Ranked 19th), before succumbing to former World Champion Leandro Da Cunha (World Ranked 6th) in the final. Congratulations Kenny on a job well done.

Jim Bacon takes Bronze at World Police and Fire Games

Jim competed in the Masters 100+ Kg division and placed 3rd behind Azar Asgarov of Azerbaijan (1st), and Helmut Gfoellner of Austria (2nd). Congratulations Jim on a job well done. We’re all proud of you!

The 43nd Annual Northglenn Judo Championships was held at Legacy High School, Westminster, Colorado. Over 200 athletes from 10 states competed in the event. For adults in the Olympic Weight categories, place winners earned national ranking points from USA Judo. Northglenn Judo club won the overall club award with 99 points, followed by Hyland Hills Judo Club and the Olympic Training Center. $100 was awarded to both Hyland Hills Judo Club as the Colorado team with the most points and USA Stars (Oklahoma ) as the non-Colorado team with the most points (excluding the host club). The winners and runner-up in each Olympic weight classe recevied cach prizes as well.

Highlights:

2010 World Championship Team members Michael Eldred, Kenny Hashimoto, Jacob Larson, Allison Clifford, and Ann Shiraishi all went undefeated to win their respective divisions. In the Women’s 70kg (154.3 lbs.) division, former nationally ranked competitor Natasha Newson (Colorado Springs, CO, Olympic Training Squad) came out of retirement and won the division. On her way to the championship, she deffeated #2 ranked Samantha Bleier (Colorado Springs, CO, Olympic Training Squad.) with a throw for Ippon (instant win). In the Men’s 73 kg (160.9 lbs.) Northglenn’s Alonso Wong, 2011 class 5A State Wrestling champion, was defeated by World Team Member Michael Eldred in the gold medal match, but then went on to defeat teammate Joseph Hashimoto to secure the silver medal in the division.
